Red Squirrel

Today's the day .......................... to see red

I went up to Barrhill Wood today, to check on the red squirrels - and I wasn't disappointed.

The hide is still closed but it doesn't seem to make any difference to the squirrels.  Food is still put out for them in various feeders on the trees - and they seem oblivious to any humans who are standing nearby, hoping to get a picture.

This one, lifted up the lid of the feeder and rummaged about inside (see extra) until it had found the peanut that it wanted.  Then it put the lid back down and ate the peanut discretely on top - adopting a position that squirrels do so well, with that tail curling over their backs.  It was delightful - and, as always, a real treat to see one.

Lots of birds too, coming to the feeders - including this robin (see extra), one of many.  I can never resist a robin redbreast .......................!
