TO MARKET, TO MARKET!

Being essentially a hunter-gatherer I hastened off to the market this morning not wanting to miss the freshest produce.
More lovely young green beans, mielies and of course Sanette's delicious pies.
The rest of the morning was spent baking. I decided to make Aunt Nel's orange cake and I imagined her going into her pantry and looking around. There on the shelf were last summers dried raisins from the vine in the garden and right next to the raisins were the first oranges of the season. So a new recipe was created.
Out came the old mincer that was screwed to the wooden kitchen table and instead of using it for making sausages, the fruit was minced with the raisins and added to the cake batter to make a most delicious fresh fruit cake finished off with a syrup of honey, orange juice and rind poured over the cooling cake.
Now you might ask why not blip it? Well, I place some paper on top of the cake to keep it from drying out and the wretched stuff STUCK!
Anyway it was most delicious .
