I swapped PT sessions with Mrs C, so I could head down to Thurnham Hall (near Lancaster) to take part in the publicity photo shoot for Blackadder. Quite a strenuous session in the gym, and at an earlier hour than I was used to, so I was glad that last nights gig had ended early meaning I was not too late out of bed. Quite weird really - we played well and had people up on the dance floor, but everyone started leaving around 10.30. Maybe a combination of age (it was a 70th birthday do) and bad weather (we had the remnants of Storm Otto passing through) meant people wanted to get away early. Can’t say I entirely blame them as the roads back to Kendal were pretty bad, with lots of standing water.
The photo shoot was great fun. There has been a Thurnham Hall on the site since the 12th Century and the current building has many Tudor and Elizabethan features still in place, making it ideal for our purposes. But we did get some very quizzical looks from guests enjoying a drink in the bar as Blackadder, Melchett and Queen Elizabeth, along with assorted other characters all traipsed through on the way to the next location!
Very glad I was able to make it. For a character with not many lines, I was included in a lot of photos, so I’m looking forward to seeing them when they get posted around the theatre and on social media.
