River Dee at Kirkcudbright

Today's the day ..................... for forgotten voices

I think Will paid £1.50 for this DVD from one of the charity shops in Kirkcudbright - and it's an absolute gem.  It seems to have been a project carried out in 2004 with a variety of sponsors.  The aim was to record and preserve the local language and dialect and to provide a commentary on the local social history of the area.

Once I worked out how I could actually play it, I heard the reminiscences of a number of local people of how things were here when they were young, what they liked to do, how they spent their time - and all in the local language and dialect of the Stewartry area.  And there were old photographs to go with the talking - one of them a picture of our house and the old railway bridge over the River Dee.  It was a real treat to listen to it all.

Will's away at present - down in Wales with son Tim, on a social history project of his own.  He's so going to enjoy listening to it when he returns ........................
