Big Stanes

We're having a treat holiday on Arran so today has been busy but in a fun way.  Up early to catch the ferry, had a very blustery but fun crossing.  I do like standing on a boat and just watching the sea, even in February breezes!  We didn't have much of a plan when we landed so headed north on the road around the island.

Stopped off for a drink and cake at the Lochranza distillery and treated ourselves to a whiskey ring shelf and a bottle for P.  Had a wander at the nearby castle and spent a good while watching the ringed plovers on the shore who were very cute.  We then decided to keep on going and do a loop of the island, stopping again at the big stanes.  Not as many as some on other islands, but they were spread over quite a distance!  We also spotted a rather fine frog on the path who we admired for a few minutes.

Back in Brodick we booked ourselves into our 'retreat' cottage which is ridiculously lovely and has this reading nook thing in the wall which is super cool.  Went for an early tea and had a beautiful pizza and possibly the best ice cream I've ever tasted (Arran Rhubarb and Ginger) and now we're back waiting for the wood fired hot tub to heat up!  It's been a good day and both me and P feel like we're actually chilling out which is nice.
