Late late potatoes
This is one of the pots of late potatoes that I planted at the end of August for Christmas. The idea was that they would be moved somewhere frost-free before it got frosty, but blight spoilt that plan. All of the foliage and the top part of the soil was bagged and sent landfill and then I just neglected them.
It is compost-giveaway day on Saturday, when the council give away a lorryload of lovely compost. So the allotment time was spent finding the empty bulk bags and sorting the contents of the car. Then I thought I should empty the potato bins for more compost collection. Fortunately I used the wheel barrow and found these and more just in the first pot. Looking back, I think these are Charlotte - the label is totally illegible despite being written in permanent marker. I will empty the other pots at the weekend, but must remember to put the soil somewhere I won't be growing potatoes for a while (probably the raspberries and gooseberries).
Speaking of berries, some new seeds arrived today including the Mountain Cranberry, aka Lingonberry. So if I get a move on with sowing them, I might be able to attempt another of HelHSS's recipes at the end of the year.
