Today's the day ..................... for the return of the native

I took Will today for a visit to the Threave Castle Nature Reserve, partly because he hadn't been there since all the improvements - but mainly because word was out that the Ospreys had returned.

And sure enough, there was the female on the nest waiting patiently for the return of the male, who apparently had slipped away to find some Sunday lunch.  It never fails to amaze me that these birds are able to find their way back to this specific spot each year - after over-wintering in Africa.

It just seems a complete miracle that they somehow know the route and seem to do it with the utmost ease .......................
