Wellington

Field Marshal Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington; a huge figure in history and a huge bronze statue situated in Glasgow.

This statue sees the Iron Duke as he was known astride Copenhagen his favourite horse, this is an iconic statue in Glasgow as, more often that not, he is pictured with the obligatory traffic cone on his head, this morning however he was in disguise.. with his hi vis vest protesting about dirty water, it was nice to see the waggish students had at least learned that he was known as the Iron Duke and transcended the ages of history to adorn Wellington with an Iron Man mask from one real life hero to a modern day comic book hero.

This appealed to my sense of humour, a little light relief from the horrors and melancholy of recent days. This does not get away from the fact that this is a stunningly beautiful sculpture, detailed, tactile regal!! Best viewed in large I suspect.
