Meet Siobhan the electrician

Today we had our electric smart meter fitted by a young woman. 
 
At the risk of sounding sexist I must confess we were pleasantly taken aback when we opened the door at 9 o clock this morning to find Siobhan standing there.
 
This 25 year old is a gas engineer, who also happens to be a qualified electrician too.
 
Yes, she says, people are surprised when she turns up but there are now more and more young women taking up these jobs. ( Less than 1 per cent of gas engineers are women.)
 
What attracted her to the job?
“I love working with my hands and I hated the idea of sitting in an office. I did work in a call centre once.”
 
Unlike male electricians Siobhan made no attempt to dazzle us with technical stuff and she explained exactly what she was doing and talked us through the whole process. She was extremely thorough and even spotted that we had a very minor gas leak.
