‘Time to Leave’
This morning was the time to leave our cosy little Airbnb in the tiny village of Talkin.
Located on the brow of a hill, in quiet countryside a few miles east of Carlisle, the name Talkin has nothing to do with talking but, according to Wikipedia, is from the Brittonic dialect known as Cumbric that used to be spoken in the area. (tal, means "brow" or "end" in Brittonic and modern Welsh, Cornish, and Breton)
The origin of the second element is less clear.
“It may come from the Brittonic word which appears in Welsh and Old Cornish as can("white") and Breton as kann ("bland, brilliant"). Talkin may be a hill-name meaning "white brow".”
Whatever the origins, we had a great time there with lots of walks, a parkrun, and the local pub practically next door!
