Santiago de Compostela

Our hostal is clean and comfy and ideally located in the heart of the old town, but unfortunately it’s in a plaza with several bars and the Spaniards like to party till the wee small hours so we didn’t sleep particularly well last night! No walking today though so longish lie and then off to explore the town after enjoying our favourite Spanish breakfast of pan y tomate. It was a day of heavy showers and sunny intervals. We got absolutely drenched while we were queuing up to go to the Pilgrim’s Mass in the Cathedral (very moving and spectacular with the Botafumeiro) but then dried out in the afternoon while enjoying the beautiful Alameda Park. In the evening we repacked our rucksacks and took our extra bags to the posh hotel that we’ll be staying in on our return to Santiago, hopefully once we’ve completed the Camino!
