Walpurgis Night till the first day of spring
Walpurgis Night has been celebrated in many ways, bonfires and drinking and whatever.
But for a child most important were the dry sidewalks where you could walk in small shoes, maybe even knee socks if it was warm enough. There was at last no snow. Then of course the balloons and the colorful whisks that you could wave when walking. Then there was sweet mead and crispy funnel cakes in a café. The grownups had a lunch among themselves, the customary vappulounas.
