Upwaltham, West Sussex

This is Upwaltham Barns taken from the 'Church in the Field', the 900 year old St Mary the Virgin, Upwaltham. The Saxons built their churches to serve small parishes in the beautiful Downs where they had cleared the woodland for villages.

The gardens were open at the Barns today, some of the most interesting we've visited. They also have wonderful old Flint Sussex Long Barns which are licensed for marriages and civil partnerships. The tea they laid on was one of the best too - Victoria Sponge with fresh strawberries and cream for me. Throw in second hand book and plants stalls, and you pretty much have my ideal afternoon out. In glorious sunshine for the second day running .....
