A new sighting!

Late morning we went for a birding walk at a new place for us, Ellis Wetlands in West Chester. It was a rather dull day, but at least it stayed dry. I had seen several posts from there recently on Cincinnati Birders Facebook page, and it seemed like a good place to try out so, armed with my camera and binoculars, we set out walking. The highlight of our walk was seeing this Sora, a member of the Rail family, and a new sighting for me, or a “lifer” in bird watching parlance! It is a rather secretive bird, whose habitat is among the reeds. I rather like the description I found in Cornell all about birds website “The Sora walks slowly through the shallow wetlands a bit like a chicken that has had too much coffee, nervously flicking its tail and exposing the white feathers below”! We also saw a Greater Yellowlegs, and many red-winged blackbirds, see extras.
We had been planning to continue to Gilmore Ponds, another birding area, not far away, but Roger got a phone call, and we had to return home, so he could meet up with another of the Trustees from church
