It’s about to reopen!
I blipped the Lithgow Zig Zag about a year ago so I won’t bore you with the early history again. After being abandoned from 1910 to the mid ‘70s it became a very popular scenic and historical tourist railway up until 12 years ago when it was closed due to some safety concerns. A few years later, most of the rolling stock and infrastructure was wiped out in a bushfire, not just any old bushfire, the army had decided to carry out some artillery practice on their range about 10kms away on a hot, windy day when there was a Total Fire Ban. Brilliant!!
On the way back from Lithgow today we dropped in for a look - they’re about to reopen and the blip shows the finishing touches going on one of the carriages.
Congratulations to all the workers (including many volunteers) who have brought the railway back to life. I can’t wait to take my grandchildren!
