New Forest specialties

A super day in the New Forest. In the morning  we went on an RSPB  walk from Fritham with  an expert birder. First,we saw a Woodlark singing as he flew, circling over his territory. Then we spotted a Cuckoo in flight and heard another one calling. Heading into woodland we saw a Tree Pipit and then heard a Willow Warbler and a, now quite rare, Wood Warbler, before  spotting a very colourful male Redstart. My blip shows the woodland, but the birds were too far away, and moving too quickly to photograph!
In the afternoon, Martin and I went on to Testwood Lakes nature reserve where we  saw Common  Terns on the special nesting platforms which have been constructed for  them, some Lapwing with chicks, and  Sand Martins flying in and out  of their nests in holes  in a specially created wall. There were also  some very fast flying Orange Tip butterflies feeding on the flowers of the Lady 's Smock. (Cardamine pratensis ) and  a few early damsel flies.
