The Little Stour near Littlebourne

A hat-trick of sunny days over the bank holiday weekend! When did that last happen? At least it was sunny in the South East, we hear it was not as good in the west of the country. I expect we'll pay for it tomorrow.

Today we put the bikes on the roof of the car and went down to Littlebourne, the other side of Canterbury, to do one of our rides - to Sandwich and back.

It was a delightful ride cycling through the lanes of East Kent, flat and level with only the wind to contend with. So much greenery, much bird song and the scents of early summer. Followed National Cycle Route 1 for much of the way. We've seen the other end of this route - in the Orkneys.

Lunch in Sandwich (ha) and then a ride to the coast at Sandwich Bay and a bit of a detour when we found we couldn't get out at the end of the road as I thought we would be able to.

An ice-cream was Susan's reward for the additional miles. A good journey back but much of it into the wind - which isn't too bad when almost all on the flat.

On the last mile of the 35 mile ride we cycled alongside the Little Stour - and what a beautiful little river it is. This is almost Constable country and could be timeless.

Another great day.
