RAMPSIDE LIGHTOUSE PLUS 2
Such a lovely day today I had a mini blipmeet with CumbriaLass and her gorgeous dog Fletch.
We met up at Roa Island as we haven't been there for a long time. It was very quiet. The Bosun's Locker cafe is shut as the owners are on holiday. However we sat on a bench looking over to Piel Island. The ferry didn't appear to be running today (a small boat with a motor) but then the tide was very low.
We did meet up wtih another photographer and it transpires he completed the AYWMC course that CumbriaLass and I did and also belongs to the EDPS club, same as us. He was up from Chorley.
We had a little wander went to go down to the Watch Tower/Customs House but it's now been cordoned off - don't know why, presumably something to do with Health & Safety - however as Fletch can't read he photobombed my photograph (last photo in extras), but that's the best sort of photobomber to have.
We then met a couple with a gorgeous wee dog, who was trying to be friends with Fletch, who allowed said dog to sniff him and say hello, then that was that (see first extra).
After that we went for lunch at The Clarkes Hotel at Rampside. A pleasant enough pub with gorgeous lamps and basic pub food but what we had was fine and they were welcoming and it's dog friendly, so perfect for us.
After that we went to take photos of the Light Tower, Rampside Leading Light, also known as "The Needle", is a leading light located in the Rampside area of Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England. Built in 1875, it is the only surviving example of 13 such beacons built around Barrow during the late 19th century to aid vessels into the town's port. It's so intriguing looking at it, the only one left of its kind.
I also spotted the house you can see in extras and it intrigued me as it is so incongruous in that area. At the time this was built it must have been the only house there. The only information I can find on it is that it is called Rampside Hall and from Wikipedia. It looks on good condition but don't think it's used, which is such a shame - what an amazing building.
Anyway thank you for reading, hope it's not too laborious. Do take care and stay safe and I will see you all tomorrow.
