Little sand martins.

Lots of photos taken on our day out to Naburn Locks, but it was the little sand martins that one the day.
As we sat on the river bank having a picnic, these little birds were swooping all around us as they dived in and out of the holes in the lock sides feeding their young.
So you have a collection of some of the photos I took.

The horse chestnut trees along the riverbank were looking magnificent. Covered in the beautiful ‘ candle’ flowers.
Further along, as the path winds it’s way between the river and fields, there were wild flowers everywhere with butterflies and damselflies flitting here and there.

We were pleased to see the blacksmith’s forge and machine shop open. Both buildings now preserved. They aren’t usually open as they are short of volunteers to show people around.

Then to finish off the day perfectly a narrow boat came up the river Ouse and through the Locks on it’s way to York.

Weather perfect. However now clouded over.
Only downside was the drive along the M62 to the A1 on the way there. Fortunately not so bad on the way home.
Worth the hassle for such a lovely day.
