2023 Wednesday — Anniversary Writing
—Anniversary month Celebrating
—Day 25
This anniversary month has given Mr. Fun & me the fun of celebrating and the opportunity to re-examine what it means to be married, to be individuals, to be human, and to be Christians.
Getting pregnant before marriage is common today. Lots of people cannot relate to the devastation and disappointment that we caused our parents over five decades ago in 1965 when we got married with a baby on the way. Actually we were decent kids from respectable homes; we had, though, made really bad choices. More than revealing our characters, our bad decision gave us the opportunity to shape them as we lived with the consequences.
In 1965 we were young and lacked understanding of what we were promising to do. We couldn't spell "commitment." We certainly didn't know how we were going to do it.
In 1975 we rounded the corner into our 10th year of marriage and found ourselves as surprised as others that we were still married. We celebrated by having the wedding we didn't have ten years previous. The One Who turns water into wine, Jesus, was an unexpected guest at that celebration. His Presence in our lives has made the past 48 years almost unbelievable.
Fifty-eight years later we are sifting through the memories with the assistance of piles of photographs and volumes of thoughts scrawled on paper and we're looking at all the ingredients, the dimensions, and the aspects that have made our lives meaningful. The family we have, the houses we have resided in, the cars we have owned, the careers we have experienced, the vacations we have enjoyed, the places we have traveled, and the people who have allowed us to call them friends are the trail markers throughout this journey. We are five days till confetti.
If you have read this far, you are amazing. We hope you are enjoying the journey along with us.
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
