Nora Batty and Compo
'Last of the Summer Wine' was filmed in and around Holmfirth, and the sitcom's 50th Anniversary is being celebrated in the town this weekend. So this postbox topper just had to be today's Blip! (No idea where the tiger - or is it a cat? - come in to the picture though!)
Into Holmfirth at lunchtime as MrM had a job interview (yes, on a Bank Holiday Saturday). He has no idea what the outcome might be, but was given a banoffee tart by the interviewer, which we shared later in the day. But first, a celebratory - or commiseratory - drink and sharing platter for lunch at Magic Rock Tap.
Home to some serious gardening. MrM planted the magnolia stellata, and two hydrangeas that we brought from the 'yard in Wooler, and then created a platform so the frogs can get out of the pond. Meanwhile, I dug out an ivy that was threatening to take over a whole bed, and started on the Douglas spirea that seems to have crept in from the gardens on both side and is attempting total invasion. It will take a while. Final task of the day was watering all the plants in containers - it's been another scorcher.
