Sunderland Point

With low tide at 1pm it was a good day to take the marshes road to Sunderland Point ( Lancashire) and visit Sambo's grave. The village is unique in the UK, being on the mainland but dependent on the tides for access because 2 hours either side of high tide this road is under water. In the 1700s it was a thriving port but the shifting sands of Morecambe Bay have put pay to that. When it was a port a young black slave was brought ashore but died of some nasty Lancashire disease in about 1736. He was given a grave by the locals, and it now attracts tourists, witness our visit today . Extra is Sambo's grave and the coast road with grand houses of old that likely looks as it did in the 1700s.  If you look at the map locator and use satellite view you'll see the road from Overton that is underwater at high tide.
