York
This is a very late posting.
Apologies, I am way behind responding to fellow Blippers’ lovely comments and dipping into blippers’ journals. I’ll catch up as and when I can.
We had a leisurely breakfast, after which MrMacD helped our host, P, in the garden and I got a load of washing done. I’m most impressed with the garden and even more impressed when I learned that H wasn’t a gardener until they moved to the property five years ago. There’s hope for me yet!
We had coffee and shortbread biscuits early afternoon then drove into York to visit Clifton’s Tower (http://www.historyofyork.org.uk/themes/norman/clifford-s-tower) which has a history going back to 1066. Firstly we picked up H’s friend, C, from the station, then they dropped us at the tower and returned home. It was very interesting to walk through the tower and from the top there are expansive views of York. One part of the tower we visited was the “garderobe”, otherwise known as the toilet. The clever folk back then managed to devise a system to “flush” the toilet from water collected on the roof of the tower. Afterwards we walked through York in the sunshine, met P’s son and the four of us went for a drink at the York Minster Refectory, formerly the Grade 2 listed York Minster School built in the 1830s. It was lovely relaxing in the sunshine, enjoying a G&T, chatting and indulging in some people watching. H and C picked us up just after 5pm and we returned home to chat, drinks, and supper. We checked the trains for tomorrow and decided an early night was in order as we might have to change our plans. We’ve had another enjoyable, sunny day.
The blip shows various scenes from the day, including the Periodic Table wallpaper in the ladies’ toilet at the Refectory.
