Celebrating the Pink Ladies of the Scotia Barrens
Springtime grows long in the tooth, and we are heading into summer. The pink ladies of the Barrens (Cypripedium acaule, pink moccasin flower, lady slipper) have had their several-weeks stay. They are native orchids that grow wild in our Pennsylvania woods. They start out wearing pale green nightgowns, then change into their gorgeous pink ball gowns.
And now, as the weeks have worn on, some of them are beginning to go to seed. I don't know how long this pink lady will stay - she hasn't given me her schedule - but I wanted at least one more posting celebrating the pink ladies of the Scotia Barrens. So here it is. Well done, beautiful ladies. How lovely to have gotten to visit with you again!
I need a soundtrack song for a beautiful lady, and here is a personal favorite: Kenny Rogers and Lionel Richie, singing Lady. Music begins around 3 minutes in. The performance is adorable, and chock full of love. Enjoy!
