The First Rose of Summer

Rosa mutabilis is flowering by the back door, very early this year. It looks a fragile thing, thin stems and papery petals. The blooms don't last more than a day or two. The book describes it as: 

A very unusual rose. Continuously producing single, scented flowers of honey-yellow to orange, ageing to cerise red.


What it doesn't mention as the lovely light wild-rose scent. It is growing up the end wall of the house next to the scented clematis, and on the corner is a honeysuckle, which is just about to flower. I can't remember them all doing this at the same time before. Our noses are in for a treat
