Didn't make it

In the spring there are a fair number of these poor chicks that don't make it. I assume some are stolen by birds, some will be ejected by their parents or siblings, some will be ejected by cuckoos. Not sure what happened to this one, but I spotted it on the pavement on my way to walk the dog. No doubt something will make a meal out of it.
