Cape Fear River

We took a Black Water cruise this morning. It was perfectly lovely. The river is black from the tannins in the water from the long leaf pines that were so important to this area. Supposedly very clean. Much of this river is very salty as the seawater has moved in and closer to Wilmington the trees are bald of leaves from the brackish water, called “ghost trees”. There are actually blue crabs harvested here and sent to Maryland. Further up the river, it’s fresh water and these lovely trees and a little knoll were very pretty.

I’ve added a couple of extras too. There are 17 osprey nests currently. One there.
