Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

You’re being watched, Archie…

Another restless night. I couldn't sleep, in between coughs, so I listened to a couple of radio programmes, then I had the bright idea of listening to my audiobook - I always fall asleep within minutes with it - infallible! I just needed to note where I started and wind back to there, should I drift off.

Did I drift off? NO! I listened to about six chapters before I gave up. Mind you, I did have to wind back to remind myself of what had happened.

I stayed in bed for the morning. We had Kevin coming to fix our shower floor again. Jan, when she was here, had used something which marked it. Not her fault - we hadn't reminded her to be extra careful. And anyway, it's SO ridiculous to make and sell shower floors of this material. NO strong cleaning stuff to be used AT ALL. Kevin is a magician - he shuts the bathroom door (he uses all sorts of smelly chemicals) and tries all his chemical and potions until he finds the right stuff to clean it.  We hugged him last time he fixed it. I didn't do that this time.

JR phoned the dentist to cancel her appointment today, explaining that someone in the household had Covid. But they couldn't give her another appointment before our holiday (in two weeks). She then tested and found that she hasn't got it, so she rang back, but they had given her appointment away! In the afternoon, I urged her to go down there and tell them that she was being penalised for doing the right thing. She could have just turned up and not mentioned Covid. So she did, and they found an appointment next week. Result.

I managed to get up and sit out in the sun in the afternoon. I've mutated to runny nose, watery eyes and violent sneezing, but hopefully the persistent cough has gone.

JR went to the local gym for a whirl, and we sat out the back, and for the first time, noticed the neighbour's (indoor) cat at the bathroom window, though Archie didn't...
