Nice is nice 4

We heard some trumpets when sitting on our hotel balcony, so decided to investigate. It turns out, that as well as being Martin’s birthday, today is also ‘Appeal of June 18’ National Day.

The National day commemorates General de Gaulle's historic appeal to the French people to refuse to accept defeat and continue the fight against the enemy (given in 1940), and since then has been part of the annual commemorative calendar.

It’s important to remember that WW 2 impacted not just Britain and the US, but in many cases was an even greater fight in countries on continental Europe.

It was good to be able to partake in the event.

Happy Fathers Day to all, as well celebrating those great fathers, let’s remember the many great fathers who are no longer with us, but left many happy memories.
