Elvis Costello in Vancouver

Another day walking thousands of steps through Vancouver all the way to Chinatown and back........... and then back again in the evening to Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

We were entranced by the sea planes taking off from Coal Harbour.

Built in 1985, the Dr Sun Yat Sen classical Chinese garden is a masterclass in design.

Interestingly for Edinburgh people, in the 1970s Vancouver city planners faced major opposition to a proposed eight lane freeway that would have cut through Chinatown. The neighbourhood was saved and later local architects Joe Wai and Don Vaughan worked with the Suzhou Garden administration to design the garden.  53 master-craftsmen from Suzhou moved to Vancouver for the 13 months of construction.

The day ended on a high by seeing Elvis Costello in concert. The support was Nick Lowe which was a major bonus.  Delighted to hear them duet 'What's So Funny about Peace, Love and Understanding' as an encore.
