twinned with trumpton

The assault on the remaining Munros continues.

After a good night's sleep, I was up and out with Loki around the head of the loch before we did breakfast / tea  and off once more down to Achnashellach to tackle Beinn Liath Mhor.

A more manageable 9 miles this time - we kicked off at the station at Achnashellach at around 8 and settled into another hot day as we wound our way up through the woodland and eventually coming out at the entrance to the coire. (see blip). It's a magnificent setting with 2 Munros and a Corbett forming the high points around Coire Lair. Majestic is an understatement.

Loki managed to almost fully submerge himself in peat as we headed off to the only real steep climb of the day - the approach to Beinn Liath Mhor. Once that was done, it was by no means straightforward, but the series of humps and dips all the way to the summit (directly above Her head in the photo) gave a nice approach at height; Torridon resplendent to the north; the Torridon giants imposing across the skyline.

Eventually we hit the top and drank in the view whilst dining on cheese and pickle pieces.

There was never a serious attempt at tacking on Sgurr Rhuadh but even the descent into the corrie was a fun filled exercise; I'm glad the visibilty was clear as it's a fairly technical descent if there was clag.

No matter; we joined the path out and set about oooh-ing and aaaaah-ing our way out of the corrie; it reminded me a bit of Patterdale - the mountains towering above you.

Before we got back to the transport, I managed a dip in the river; revived nicely for the drive home. Fi headed off and we sorted ourselves out and also headed off to Inverness and down the A9.

We reconvened at Bruar for fish and chips before continuing on in increasingly grey skies.

I dropped Her and headed for home; tired and a van to unload because it was due back at 8 the following morning. Not the time then to find out I'd misplaced my fob for the door, the heavens to open, and there to be no parking at the door.

Having jumped the fence and got into the building by the door from the garden, I managed to clear the van, only to find the lift was out of commission. Really not what you need after a couple of hard days in the hills.

Reader, I DID get in, and after a hot shower and a cold beer, I was done. The test match highlights will have to wait. 45 left.

2 extras - panoramas of the view from the summit ride of Beinn Liath Mhor and another looking down into Coire Lair; Beinn Liath Mhor on the left, Sgurr Ruadh on the right. Truly magnificent terrain.
