Art competition winner!
Last week on 20th I blipped a photo of the sculpture Gaia in our local Arts Centre. We visited it again today with the grandchildren after school. My husband was underwhelmed but the children thought it was quite fun and liked trying to identify the continents …they were not impressed that you could not see Europe due to the positioning.
They had previously done some pictures for a competition that was meant to be inspired by it! However the entries had to be in a few days after it was first on show so I asked the children to do a picture about the earth before they saw it. They had been doing a bit of work at school about looking after the earth, recycling , climate change etc. they also have a world map on the wall at home, a globe and for five they know lots about the world…..all the continents plus lots of countries. This is one of their efforts completely unaided by an adult…and it gained 3rd prize. Hopefully he will get a certificate or something.
Earlier I went into Kingston to do some shopping and was amazed at how crowded it was at about 11am. John Lewis has a big sale and there were lots of ladies on the clothes departments and queues for the changing rooms!
About 10C cooler today this morning which was so much pleasanter.
Having watched some of Elton John playing at Glastonbury last night I watched a bit more today and thought I would see if we still have an LPs of his….see extra of Yellow Brick Road from the 1970’s. We still have quite a lot of vinyl both classical and ‘pop’ etc and although we still have a turntable it is years since this LP has been played! I had a look on eBay and this LP was listed at £49!
