Back home!
A nice 7am breakfast in the weak sun. There had been thunder and lightning all night - I spent quite a bit of time out on the balcony, watching it all. Luckily, we had blackout curtains, but still, with a wee space, the whole room would light up every few seconds.
An hour's taxi ride too took us to the shamozzle that was Verona Airport departures. Absolutely crowded, huge queues, and not enough space. They are enlarging the airport, but at the moment it's a pretty tight space. The security queue was long, but kept moving. I was frisked, as usual, because I beeped as I nipped through the scanner. As she passed her magic wand down each leg, then up again, it beeped every time it passed my (new) knees. But at least I didn't have to take my shoes off this time.
We sat having a water, being lucky enough to get a seat and a table - there's just not enough room. We then realised we should be in the queue to get through passport control. It was dead slow and stop. There were only a few automatic passport readers, and they are not very efficient. A staff member was permanently employed calling out people from the queue as their plane was boarding. We got called out.
However, once on the plane, it was a pleasant two hour journey back home. Always nice to arrive when it's sunny.
Archie is staying with Elizabeth tonight, which is fine, because we're pretty tired. He's had a big walk up the Braid Hills this afternoon, where they were about the same height as the Red Arrows flying over the city saluting King Charles, who is in town.
Nice to be home, and Wimbledon's on!
