How many herons do you see?

I counted 45 , though in order to get this to load at all i had to crop the edges enough to cut out several of the nests. The rookery was quite large and fairly distant from the observation tower. There are a few cropped views in extras. I have never seen this many herons in one spot. There were a lot of herons in the surrounding pools as well , unable to be completely counted sa some were masquerading as grass clumps . They were not close either. Towards the east there were also quite a few great egrets.
The extras also show the purple martins we watched for a while also. They were feeding the babies which was a lot of fun to watch . The skies were quite gray and overcast so to get the purple color I had to overexpose the nest boxes.
