Supermassive Black Hole

Posting early because I’ve got another gig tonight. I haven’t actually paid much attention to what the workmen have been doing in our road, so took advantage of a rare dry spell today to see what the fuss was all about.
It does seem quite a big trench for such a narrow pipe, but there are probably regulations as to minimum dimensions etc. And I’m assuming the square hole in the pavement is where they’ll feed the pipe to our house from. Looking at the houses on the other side of the road (which were done yesterday), it seems that our new “improved” gas pipe will be slightly smaller in diameter and just slipped inside the existing pipe. We will find out on Monday as we have been told to be ready from 8.00am for our gas to be turned off and the new pipe connected. And there must be one adult in the property during the day to allow them access as and when required. Speaking to a neighbour across the road, he said they just grumbled constantly about the inaccessibility of the meters in the houses they’d done so far. Well, that shouldn’t apply to us as we moved the meters to outside years ago when we had the kitchen done. Maybe we won’t be too badly inconvenienced after all.
And whilst the trench outside our house is safely cordoned off with plastic barriers, the same cannot be said for the trench on the other side of our drive. The storm this afternoon has blown over most of the barriers and they are now strewn over next door’s drive and garden. More worryingly, the trench is now exposed. Can’t see any sign of a number to ring in these circumstances, so I guess it’ll be like that until Monday morning. Let’s hope no one falls down the hole in the meantime!
And I shall be especially careful when returning home from the gig in the early hours of tomorrow morning.
