Funky Fungi
..adding a little colour and interest to the island landscape. We have no actual "gardens" here.. just some hardy day lilies that my mom planted out front decades ago. Of course we have wild flowers - our favourite being the Lady's Slipper wild orchid...and some daisies that no-one actually planted and of course water lilies...But right now the brightest thing out there is this fungus....whatever it is called... I do hope it is an attractive name and not a "common" anything!
It was a fun day in that my daughter and SIL arrived to do some cottage chores..which provided me with live entertainment. Watching others work is always a joy...but it can be nerve-wracking too... My daughter perched high up on a ladder painting some boards in the peak of the screened porch roof? Me..afraid of heights?..and equally afraid when my loved ones perch at heights? My dad was as comfortable as my daughter is up on a roof cleaning eavestroughs or leaning over the edge of canyon walls..and I have vivid memories of both of them making my heart flutter...Luckily, all went well today ... she got the boards painted without incident..
This was followed by an attempt to whipper-snip some long grass which ended up in the discovery of a nest of aggressive wasps..luckily no one was injured...but the cutting was postponed...
Relaxing on the dock and a bit of fishing were included..and some helpful hints as to how to decipher my frustrating tapestry chart were offered by my daughter, the problem-solver....I will try them out tomorrow..
It was a good day...it always is when the "young" ones visit.
PS: There is one interesting thing that happens regularly here that one might not expect when one visualizes the serenity of cottage country living...the roar of float planes landing and taking off on one's front doorstep! The bay in front of our cottage is a popular place for pilots-in-training to practise their" touch and goes". It is a long enough strip of open water to allow, I guess, for errors? :)) Actually it is fun to watch...and it is limited usually to two passes...and happens only once a week or so...but unfortunately often at nap time.
