Calne Bike Meet (Saturday 29th July 2023)

The annual conglomeration of motorbikes converging on Calne took place today (see Extras), which has meant a constant stream of bikes passing by on the A4 all day. I wandered into town this afternoon and on my way I passed this vintage 1991 Mini. I have a renewed interest in Minis now, as a proud owner, but I think I would have recognised this as a rare site anyway.

It is apparently a nordic blue Rover Neon, the last limited edition 998cc Mini made by Rover, and has been owned by the same mother and daughter since 1993. Apparently they got up to 60 mpg from it, but are hoping to buy a classic campervan with the rather reasonable £6,000 they are asking for it.

Lozarithm's Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Sinead O'Connor and Van Morrison with the Chieftains - Have I Told You Lately (That I Love You)? (recorded live, 17 May 1995, London, for David Letterman: The Late Show)
This is described on You Tube as "Sinead and Van perform a duet of the classic song" but this is not the similarly titled Elvis Presley hit song, but a more recent composition by Van Morrison.
There have been a lot of tributes to Sinéad O'Connor and a lot of her music has been aired on the radio in the last couple of days. Whilst this is gratifying it seems a shame that the media has only decided how much they loved her after she died. There was a documentary on Sky Arts today called Nothing Compares. It was made in 2019 and had been scheduled to be broadcast this evening long before her death, and was very illuminating, well worth a watch. An autopsy will take place in a month or so but her death is not being regarded as suspicious after she was found unreponsive at her home in South London. In January 2022, a week after the suicide of her beloved son Jake, she was hospitalised on her own volition following a series of tweets in which she indicated she was going to take her own life.
