The woman with the purple table setting
This past month, our book group read The woman in the purple skirt by Natsuko Imamura (in translation). Since the original is in Japanese, I could have prepared a Japanese meal. Instead, however, I surprised everyone with with the presentation of a purple party. My blip shows the table setting, with the pre-dinner drink of purple rain cocktail complete with purple (Ribena) ice cubes.
The full purple menu comprised:
Hors d'oeuvres: three types of mini plain scones* topped with: (1) venison pâté; (2) cream cheese and purple grapes; (3) purple cheese (Port Wine Derby from Tesco)
First course: purple root vegetable soup (which looked more like maroon against the purple table cloth)
Main course: red cabbage and chestnut bake, purple potatoes dauphinoise with red onions, and Lorne sausage
Pudding: blueberry cheese cake
Tea: thé noir à la violette served with purple Skittles
There are shots of the food on the blips by Winsford and LauraMuir for today.
Although none of us own purple skirts, three of us found purple dresses in our wardrobes and wore them for the occasion.
Most of my day was spent cooking, with a single outing to LIDL and Tesco to buy last-minute supplies for the meal.
*red and blue food colouring does not work on dough. Both the scones and the bread served with the soup came out light brown.
Exercise today: 1 hour on the exercise bike; small amount of walking (8,834 steps).
