Communication Between the Generations

I realise I’m very lucky to have a NHS dentist and a 6 monthly recall but it still comes at a price -  £50 for a routine examination + a scale and polish. No I’m not complaining, I am feeling very fortunate that I’m not having to pull my teeth out with a pair of pliers because I can’t get an appointment. Along with the scale and polish came the lecture about flossing with these little brush things which I find almost impossible to get between my teeth. I am not taking into the equation the cost of the taxi across town since that was a luxury I chose to avoid a bus navigating the Festival streets. I did return by bus though.

After lunch I met my 8 month great granddaughter, Julia,for the first time. She lives with my granddaughter and husband in Sharjah and this is her first time back in Britain . Although she has been here for 3 weeks I have been in Orkney, so today was the big meet up. She was on her best behaviour for her GreatGrandmother and made a very good impression by smiling and being happy to see me but goodness aren’t babies suddenly so heavy! It felt like a workout just holding her. We will see each other again with my daughter on Saturday when 4 generations on the distaff side will be recorded for posterity.
