Waterlily
Another slow morning. TT was feeling much brighter today, but wanted to take it easy. It was quite a grey day, so we weren’t in a rush to go anywhere or do anything. Once the teen appeared, we decided to go to Barrington Court which wasn’t too far away. We got ourselves organised and headed up the road to Somerset.
When we go there we discovered the houses are closed at the moment for roof repairs. We just wandered around the grounds and the lovely gardens. It drizzled a bit, but it wasn’t cold. On our wander we met a guide who was to be giving an external tour of the houses. So we hung around and joined in the tour, which was very interesting and really made you look at the architecture of the house – which we learned was a prodigy house. My interest was further piqued as the house was built around the same time as my book (The Marriage Portrait) was set, although it is set in Italy. The tour took longer than we thought, so we were pretty hungry by the time it was done, so our next stop was the café for a late lunch. We were lucky as there wasn’t much left.
As we were in the area, we then headed to Tintinhull Gardens, which we visited a few years ago. We only had about twenty minutes before they closed, so it was a quick wander. They are lovely gardens, but the grey day didn’t really set them off at their best. We came home via the supermarket and picked up some provisions for tea and TT made a courgette and prawn curry. Unknown to us, he had brought the courgettes from home! I went out for another walk to explore our local area, and now have a short running route in mind.
TT found an unopened boxset of Mapp and Lucia (starring Geraldine McEwan and Prunella Scales) in our holiday house, so that Is now our holiday viewing.
The gardens brightened uop an otherwise grey day. This waterlily was at Barrington Court.
