Wild

So wild today. And it is almost certainly a Helm Wind. I have mentioned this before, but it’s not often that it lasts all day or that the bar of cloud above the hills (the ‘helm bar’) is as obvious as it was this morning. Nor does it often happen at this time of year - evidence of the strange weather patterns that are occurring at the moment.

The Helm Wind is the only named wind in the UK and is a strong north-easterly wind that hits the slopes of Cross Fell, the highest point in the Pennines. There are plenty more details of it which I don’t know - we seem to have a book about it! All I know is that the wind is rattling round the house and has done all day and it was hard to stand up as I took the photo this morning.
