Gondola
Dear O'H dear and Lovely Tea Jenny,
This morning we took a cable car up Mount Ulriken (the highest of Bergen's 7 mountains).
OMG - the dramatic views across the mountains, fjords and sea. It was amazing. Biker Chick had never been up there before which was good as she has been out personal tour guide! There’s also something that feels pleasantly familiar. It reminds me of the west coast of Scotland (and the South Island in New Zealand).
We spent the afternoon walking in the older parts of Bergen, looking at the colourful wooden houses in the narrow streets. The Prince has commented that he has had to walk. A lot!
We had brought a couple of bottles of Prosecco over which we drank before going for dinner so we were pleasantly squiffy. Biker Chick tried (mainly in vain) to give us a lesson in Norwegian but all we managed was “takk for maten” (thanks for the food) and “alt var bra” (all was good) which was a struggle after more wine but caused a lot of hilarity. We did manage to say it to a very amused waiter when he brought the bill so we were feeling very pleased with ourselves!
A slightly drunk man (The Prince) insisted that we finish the night in Finnegans (the only Irish bar we hadn’t been in) before heading back to the hotel, squiffy and giggly.
We have had such a brilliant time in Norway!
