Girvan Harbour Light
Today's the day ....................... to amble home
There are so many things we saw and places we passed through on our amble home today, so it's hard to choose just one. But we spent a lovely few hours in the seaside town of Girvan this afternoon - and that's my choice for today.
This is the circular concrete tower, dating from around 1883 at the end of the south breakwater leading into Girvan Harbour. It now has modern electric lights to guide the boats safely in. The lump of rock in the sea to the left is the island of Ailsa Craig. It's a plug of dense granite leftover from a long-extinct volcano and it has been used in the making of curling stones worldwide. On the right is the shadowy outline of the the Isle of Arran with its topping of clouds.
And in the extra is the Stumpy Tower in the town itself with its colourful bunting flapping in the breeze. The tower was erected in 1825 to serve as a jail, with cells on all three floors ..............
PS Here's Will's choice of subject today.
