Picnic spot at Camus Mòr

Just like yesterday, the sun came out mid-morning to banish the grey clouds of breakfast time. The blue skies overhead served as our signal to get our boots on and enjoy the wonderful end of summer Scottish weather in Wester Ross.

We packed a picnic and set off by car in the direction of Gairloch for the Walkhighland recommended walk from the Rubha Réidh lighthouse to Camas Mòr and back via the masts at Maol Breac. The last part of the car journey was quite an adventure as the road became narrower and narrower, and the climbs and dips steeper and steeper. By the time that we reached our parking spot, the width of the road was narrower than that of our hall carpet in Edinburgh - and I felt rather car sick!

The walk itself was superb with the most amazing views of beaches, sea stacks, the Trottenish penisula on Skye, the Shiant Isles, Harris, Lewis, and (very feint) Berneray. We could even make out the Clisham.

My blip shows Mr hazelh in the wee heather hollow 140 metres above the beach where we sat to eat our picnic, with Harris and Lewis on the far horizon. We had to be very careful when we stood up here to resume the walk after lunch. I have also included an extra of some of the wildlife that we encountered en route - a handsome wheatear.

This evening we enjoyed fish pie for supper (as per the quarter mistress' schedule), and played a couple of games. Like last night, Mr hazelh won both Scrabble and Azul. I really must try harder.

Exercise today: walking, some rather strenuous (12,603 steps).
