Watching
Ruth, helping Luca to take a photo of me with her Olympus OM-10 film camera. A nice moment.
Today's weather was overcast and intermittently showery, so Ruth and I took Luca, Eben and Frieda out for the morning. Not only that, but a small plumbing emergency was developing in the house, in the form of a blocked up toilet (fortunately there are two; however, with so many of us, this could have proved tricky to manage). Josh loves a practical challenge, and he found the drain rods and began to investigate.
Ruth and I took the kids to 'Pili Palas Nature World', near Menai Bridge. Large-scale family 'attractions' aren't usually our cup of tea. But we knew that this one had both a butterfly house and some indoor and outdoor play spaces.
As expected, it was busy, but we had a really good time. The kids got very absorbed in looking at the butterflies and the various lizards and other small creatures in the 'nature world' bit; then they were able to run off loads of energy in the playgrounds. The indoor soft play area was a particular hit. We finished it off by listening to the Mamma Mia soundtrack in the car on the way back (this being a new discovery of Frieda's).
After that, Ruth and I both went off for an afternoon nap :-)
Meanwhile, Josh and Jack had found the source of the plumbing problem ( a backed-up pipe and a nearly full septic tank), cleared the pipe and alerted the owner of the house to the need to deal with it properly after we leave.
On balance, I think Ruth and I had the easier gig :-)
