Oddfellows Hall

After waiting in for a couple of deliveries, I went over to Sheringham to pick up a couple of tins of Thompson Water Seal from the ironmongers, B&Q didn’t stock it when I popped in yesterday. The day started off with rain, but improved a bit this afternoon and I was able to do more gardening. This building is Oddfellows Hall which was Sheringham’s original lifeboat station. An upper floor was added as a reading / meeting room. When a new lifeboat station was built to make it easier to launch the boat, the hall went though various uses. It was renovated in 2007 and the current entrance created in the style of an upturned boat. It’s now a community venue.

Covid Update
NHS England have bought forward by a month the vaccination programme against flu and Covid for the over 65’s, front line health and social care workers, adult care home residents and the immunosuppressed and those living with them. Jabs will start from 11th Sept. (I assume this will be similar for Scotland and Wales). This is due to the emergence of a new variant with a lot of mutations (BA.2.86), said to be the biggest change in the virus since Omicron. A post-hospitalisation Covid-19 study has seen higher levels of the protein fibrinogen and protein fragment D-dimer which are involved in blood clotting. The hypothesis is that blood clots are a cause of post-Covid cognitive problems (brain fog). The ONS has revised upwards a series of figures on how the UK performed in 2020 and 2021. Therefore at the end of 2021, the UK economy was 0.6% bigger than before the pandemic, not the 1.2% smaller previously thought.
