Born to smile

We are programmed to be happy, we are born to smile.
And that's official. Neuroscientists have known this for a long time and Tali Sharot in her new book "The Optimism Bias "confirms it.

She says our brains are hardwired for hope despite all the bad news and gloom around us.

During last year's Forth Valley Open Studios I photographed everyone who visited studio.

Well, almost everyone. When it got really busy I didn't have the time to go around with a camera.

The result is a quirky fun video, which is being shown in the Showcase exhibition, at Stirling University, in their Pathfoot Building, which also houses their amazing collection of Scottish art.
This is well worth a visit. It is a hidden gem.

Also tomorrow I will be installing the same video - that's the beauty of digital- in St Saviour's church Bridge of Allan where it will remain for a week as part of the Font of Art group exhibition.

In previous years my videos in the church have been displayed at the foot of the pulpit. This year it will be placed on top of the organ. That's progress.

However, I will have to turn the background music off because the church does not have a license to play music. There seems to be some new Scottish regulation that has come into play and if I wanted music then they would have to pay £70 for the license. I opted to turn the sound down.

All those who took part in the project last year will get a signed photograph of themselves if they visit my studio again this year.

The video is also on my Internet channel-

This year my inter-active project is "Working Hands".
