Tabernacle Chapel, Ruthin
SUNDAY
Today was day two of the Ruthin "Open Doors" heritage event. Over the weekend a total of 22 properties in this historic market town allowed free access to members of the public. The properties included residential properties, churches, old courtrooms and the gaol.
Today's blip is the Tabernacle Chapel on Well Street, which is one of the two surviving round churches in Wales. Built in 1889, it retains its 19th century fittings. The pews are arranged in a semicircle in front of an impressive array of organ pipes. Traceried windows illuminate the interior, with a broad hammer beam domed roof. The exterior of the church can be seen in the extra.
We stopped for coffee and cake at the nearby Chatwin's Cafe and had a late lunch at The Lodge restaurant at Llanrhaeadr.
