A bus trip for a day in Funchal. Like with many capitals there was just too much to see. Surprisingly huge given the size of the island (we were given an impressive, full aerial view from one of the many elevated motorway sections as we approached Funchal). We got off by the CR7 museum then made our way through various parks, pathways and cafes. After a MacDonald's latte we headed off into the centre then hopped onto a cable car. Many micro climate later we arrived at the first stop where they had the Botanic Gardens and the legendary Funchal basket Rides. We chose not to ride them but, we had much pleasure watching the riders. The day was dampened with my camera clunking out on me on the way down in the cable car: no sound of the shutter mechanism firing. Black images. Pah! Gutted. We had wonder around the market (which doubles up as a fish market in the mornings) to get some bits n bobs and then had a late lunch. After a frantic search for the correct bus stop we eventually headed back to the hotel.
