Cutting oats..

A fair bit of rain during the night again.
Fed all the cattle then started to replace some of the broken wooden rails under the feed barriers in the slatted shed.
Hugh and his crew back again today to finish fixing the roof above the hopper in my grain shed. He's also been replacing a rotten pole that holds up the end of a cattle shed with a metal H beam. While he was here with his Merlo and man crate I got him to remove the cap on the chimney pot on the farmhouse and howk out the old jackdaw nest that's been blocking it since the spring. And fix a missing slate ,as I don't have ladders long enough to reach. It was no bother to his 18 m lift machine.
By 4 pm the wind had picked up so went and tested the oats. They were at 18.1% which was good enough for me,so got the combine fired up and started on the endrig while wee brother checked his calving cows. Once he appeared he took over and I baled up behind him. Maybe not as dry as it should have been, but no doubt it would get a lot wetter if I left it.
By half seven it was getting dark, the dampness was coming down, and as the combine lights don't work as the combine alternator is not working,we called it a day. 3 trailer loads are better than nothing. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
